Co-located interaction in virtual environments via de-coupled interfaces

چکیده
This paper describes an interaction style in virtual environments that allows co-located users to manipulate certain interactive features of virtual environments with 2D or non-inmersive types of input devices. The concept proposes to make interaction accessible to groups of users by mirroring some of the VE interaction characteristics and functionality and making them accessible from other types of input devices, such as Personal Digital Assistants (PDA), effectively de-coupling the interaction from the original forms and presenting the co-located users with a richer multimodal multi-device interaction mechanism.

Human Computer Interaction Using Vision-Based Hand Gesture Recognition
With the rapid emergence of 3D applications and virtual environments in computer systems; the need for a new type of interaction device arises. This is because the traditional devices such as mouse, keyboard, and joystick become inefficient and cumbersome within these virtual environments. In other words, evolution of user interfaces shapes the change in the Human-Computer Interaction (HCI). In...

متن کاملThe application of enhanced virtual environments for co-located childhood movement disorder rehabilitation
In this paper we discuss potential benefits and future directions in virtual reality rehabilitation for co-located motor training in children with developmental movement disorders. We discuss the potential for co-located VR to promote participation using cooperative virtual environments, facilitate social learning, and quantify levels of social interaction. We pay particular attention to the ca...
متن کاملHaptic interfaces for virtual environments: perceived instability and force constancy in haptic sensing of virtual surfaces.
Haptic interfaces are becoming more commonplace in virtual environment and teleoperation systems. There is a growing need to not only continue to improve hardware platforms and rendering algorithms, but evaluate human performance with haptic interfaces. This review summarizes two recent studies inspired by perception problems in using haptic interfaces to interact with virtual environments. The...
متن کاملTowards Applicable 3D User Interfaces for Everyday Working Environments
Desktop environments represent a powerful user interface and have been used as the de facto standard human-computer interaction paradigm for over 20 years. But the rising demand of 3D applications dealing with complex datasets exceeds the capabilities of traditional interaction devices and two-dimensional displays. Such applications need more immersive and intuitive interfaces. In order to be a...
